Writer’s Bottom Rash (2)

I pull off my tee-shirt dress and stand in the centre of the room with my hands covering my buttocks, trying to look natural.

First pose: crouched. Bottom tucked under. Maybe only one or two of the further-flung lumpy blotches visible.

Second pose: standing, hands on buttocks.

Third pose: standing with a different twist to my torso, hands on buttocks.

When the end of the pose is called – thank you Suki. Back here in fifteen minutes please, folks - I catch the eye of the nice woman who is fifty-something, the mature student, and grin.

- I’ve got this rash on my bum.

- I know.

This week’s topic

33. Is ‘The Male Gaze’ an outdated theory?

Have you watched Bel‘s 28-minute audio-visual piece, THE MALE GAZE, yet? The piece partially draws on my autobiography (Part I) A SMALL LIFE, but the first few minutes include a summary (by author and artist John Gordon) of the 1970s-80s ‘Male Gaze’ thesis.

For the full list of discussions on life-drawing and Life to be found on my blog, see here.

Noticeboard

Only a couple of slots left on my 6-hour ‘madonna and child’ life-drawing session (£18) in Bradford (UK) this Saturday 21 December 2013. My local church – Bradford Cathedral – is lending me a crib and baby Jesus. It will be a modification of Bellini’s Madonna of the Meadow. If you prefer, just do two hours (£6), 9.30-11.30 or 12.00-2pm (soup lunch thrown in) or 2.30-4.30. Festive fayre served throughout. Plenty of parking, finish your Christmas shopping in the retail park opposite Suki’s Life Room and enjoy a life-drawing session with a glass of mulled wine to hand!

Artist of the week

KATE STEWART works in watercolour and textiles. For Kate, life drawing is a delight, an impossible task and an essential basic skill! Kate regularly draws from life at artist Doug Binder‘s group, Dean Clough (click on the link then scroll down to Halifax), and at artist Jane Fielder‘s group at the Bingley Gallery (click then scroll to Bingley) – both in Yorkshire, UK. The place to do art.
